A program providing scholarships to encourage cultural and educational exchange between Australia and other countries.
To mark their 40th anniversary as a public company, in 2001 Westfield Holdings Ltd's Chairman, Mr Frank Lowy AC provided funding for the Westfield Premier's Education Scholarships program. Westfield Holdings Ltd and Ginger Max (Australia) Pty Ltd committed $3,000,000 in funding over the period 2001-2006 to provide sholarships for Australian teachers. Of this amount, $72,000 per annum ($360,000 in all) was provided to Western Australian to be awarded to government and non-government classroom teachers.
The scholarships provided funding for overseas travel to enable teachers' to improve their knowledge, skills and understanding. Each of the winners put their learning into practice in their classroom, passed on their new knowledge and skills to their peers through professional development activities, and each made a contribution to the quality of education in WA schools.
2006 was the final year of the funding agreement and accordingly the program has now ceased. The valuable contribution made by Mr Lowy, Westfield Holdings Ltd and Ginger Max (Australia) Pty Ltd is sincerely appreciated, as are the endeavours of the winners in pursuing their research interests and gaining new skills to improve the quality of education for the next generation of Western Australians. Reports submittted by winners will continue to be available from this website.
